Free State
Residential Care Centre is a multi-racial centre, which
was founded in 1981 and has for the past twenty-five years
grown from strength to strength. During these years
the Centre has proven itself as a reliable and
well-established organisation with an excellent
infrastructure, providing an essential service in the care
of one of the most destitute groups, the mentally
challenged person.
Our clients are mentally challenged persons above the age
of eighteen years. The majority are from the Free
State Province. Because of their disability they are
unable to function in the open labour market and they do
not have the ability to support themselves. They are
dependent on constant care and support. Mental
disability can not be cured and therefore the service that
we provide is a lifelong process. many do not have
any relatives to support them and a very large number of
parents are of old age and thus cannot supply any support.
Many come from economic poor conditions and we can not
expect any financial support from that quarter.
Attendance to the Centre allows them to develop to their
fullest potential and enables them to meet and interact
with people who have the same needs and interests but it
also does not deprive them of making contact with members
of the public.
The demand for accommodation for persons with disabilities
increase on a daily basis. We have a long waiting
list of parents interested in residential facilities for
their children or as day workers. The fact that
there is a very low turnover, usually only caused by
death, proves that there is huge demand for this service
and the low incidence of problems amongst the residents
and the production of good quality products are also proof
that the workers are happy and content in their work and
living conditions.
The service that we provide, residential and protected
workshops, are in accordance with a Service Plan, approved
by the Department of Social Development. The subsidy
received is also based on compliance to requirements
prescribed by the Department. |
